Caravans
If the bicycle is the Trainer's greatest ride, the caravan is the Breeder's; unlike the bike, the Caravan's purpose is to provide shelter for the Breeder and their pokemon, at the cost of speed. The advantage to this is that the risk of entering a new area 'underleveled' decreases considerably, as well as the fact that those who spend more time in an area will typically encounter rarer pokemon. Of course, Breeders aren't the only ones with the ability to purchase a caravan- but nonetheless.
Caravans come in three basic models, following which numerous add-ons and upgrades can be made to improve the living experience within one. Some of these upgrades are near necessities; the 'fold-in' kitchen is almost essential for the two bed Caravan after all, which lacks what the other Caravans have. Others are more minor, and entirely aesthetic, such as furniture changes or colour schemes.
Many such aesthetic options are available at the Berry Market; however most additions and upgrades for Caravans are sold commercially, either shipped from Anville to the proper location (which typically requires a fee of 5000P... Conveniently covered by the Breeder's Discount), or directly from Nimbasa.
Basic Caravans
There are three basic Caravans, and all three can be immediately equipped with purchase add-ons and upgrades. The key of these to consider however are the Boating Upgrade, which fits caravans for amphibious travel, and the Engine Upgrade, which removes the need to have a caravan towed by a pokemon. As the Caravan goes up in price, certain 'add-ons' become included in the initial purchase, as part of the standard. The 'Bronze' Caravan is simple; it has a set of bunkbeds, a small washroom with a shower, a standard bedding area for pokemon, and enough empty space to perhaps place a table. Aside from power- which runs throughout the Caravan and is generated via Solar Energy (and also through hydro, if driving over water)- this is all that the Caravan will come equipped with.
The Silver Caravan however has a little more. It has two sets of bunkbeds rather than one, and in addition to a slightly larger washroom, comes equipped additionally with a small kitchen and table set. That's the 'second' level.
What happens at the top? A monster of a double decker, with eight beds, a somewhat spacious kitchen, a washroom with a bathtub, and even a living area and small balcony. It's certainly worth the money, the Gold Caravan!
As for how much money that is, it depends on how you like your Caravan- dragon-drawn, floating, or engine driven.

Caravan Upgrades
Now if you can't afford those 'upper class' Caravans, but plan on purchasing one in the end, don't worry! Buying the lower grade won't waste as much as you think; those who wish to upgrade to a better Caravan are refunded 75% of the basic price, to put toward the new one! This is because they can easily patch up any issues with the old one, and re-sell it. Waste not want not right? (This 75% does not come off from upgrades made to the Caravan.)
The matter of refunds completely alters the price of a Caravan; upgrading from a basic to a full on surfing-engine-Gold will still cost a fair chunk, but it's certainly not as much as the full price! Keep in mind that upgrading from a fully outfitted Bronze to a fully outfitted Gold will not cost as much as upgrading from a Basic Bronze to a full Gold! Rather, if the Caravan being traded in already has those capabilities, then the trade in is considered to be 'without upgrades'. The same can be said for moving from something with an engine to something with an engine and a boat; it'll only be considered as an upgrade with the cost of the boat upgrade.
So what happens if you trade in an engine for a boat then? They cancel each other out!
Upgrade from: | Bronze to Silver | Bronze to Gold | Silver to Gold |

Additions
That's the 'basic' part. Buy a caravan, engine or no, and start driving. However what are those empty spaces you see sitting around in the floorplans for anyway?
Ahhh. That's where 'Add-Ons' come in. While not all add-ons are meant for placement inside the Caravan, a fair number of them are. Below you'll find a list of these add-ons, their price, what they do, and what caravans can take them at all.
Keep in mind however, that even with compatibility, certain Caravans can only hold so much! The Bronze Caravan can only take two additions inside; the Silver can take three, while the Gold is able to take four. (Interestingly enough, the maximum number of indoor additions available for the Gold Caravan happens to be four.)
Addition | Price | Description | Compatibility |
Awning | 10000P | Awning for over the back porch steps and doorway of Caravans. | ALL |
Binoculars | 10000P | A pair of binoculars to attach to the upper balcony of the Gold Caravan. It allows viewers to examine places, and even pokemon, from a distance. | GOLD |
Holographic Globe | 10000P | It takes up space, but it's well worth it. With the Globe, Egg Sales are guaranteed to go faster; now you can sell Pokemon all over the world! It may not seem like much now, but in due time it'll be key for particularly rare egg sales... | ALL |
Hide-Away Kitchen | 15000P | A small 'Kitchenette' comprising of a fold out table, two folding stools, an ice-box, and a cooking set, which includes a rice cooker and microwave oven. | BRONZE |
Repellent Lights | 15000P | A can of repel simply doesn't cut it when it comes to an entire caravan of pokemon; doubling as porch and headlights, the Repellant lights keep pokemon within a 25 foot radius away- good to keep pokemon from running into the driving path as well. | ALL |
Caravan PC | 20000P | A PC, just like the ones from the Pokemon Center! It holds full capabilities, and retains connection to the system even while on the move, or in deep tunnels. | ALL |
Healing Machine | 20000P | Worried about what will happen to the pokemon if you're too far from the nearest town? Fear not! Just like the devices in standard Pokemon Centers, the Healing Machine recovers pokemon completely! | ALL |
Laboratory Machine | 25000P | An enormous super computer, just like the ones in the Pokemon Labs! This Machine incubates and identifies eggs, restores fossils, and even allows Breeders to record the Heritage Trees of Pokemon automatically! | ALL |
Nesting Carriage | 30000P | A small trailer which attaches to the back of Caravans, and is generally either for use with larger baby pokemon, or to give them a quiet place to lay eggs. | SILVER GOLD |
