F.A.Q.

▶ So... what just happened?
▷ The Entralink broke, and your character got sent to Unova! Joy? Well, not exactly. They can't leave, at all.
▶ What sort of Pokemon partner do they get?
▷ Any basic Pokemon which isn't a legendary, including those from the Kalos region - from Bulbasaur to Noibat, they're all okay. There's a few things to keep in mind, however:
If your Pokemon doesn't have an attacking move when you get it, you can give it either its first normal attacking move, or an egg move.
And if your Pokemon was originally a basic Pokemon (for example, Magmar before Magby came around), you can give them that Pokemon. So you can start with a Pikachu if you so desire.
▶ ...well, will they be able to go home eventually?
▷ Yes, they will. They can either collect either the eight badges and defeat the champeon, or collect four ribbons and then enter the Dream Contest. Note that both the champeon and the Dream Contest aren't open right now, though.
▶ Alright, then! What's the focus of this roleplay? Like, battling, or exploring, or what...?
▷ All of the above. Whatever you want to do with your character, I'm sure you'll find it here. Want them to try and become the champ? Good luck with that. Want them to settle down and live with Pokemon? That's cool, too. Filling the Pokedex? Sure why not, there's a diploma waiting for you at the very end of the road. I must warn you - there will be a lot of plot coming into this game, and muses will be caught up in it, most likely. (Though in the end, how involved the muse becomes is still up to you.)
▶ How does I post?
▷ This roleplay is comm-based, and all in-character posts go into either the in-character community,
![[community profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/community.png)
![[community profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/community.png)
▶ Who's appable, anyhow?
▷ Quick answer? Everybody and everything.Long answer?
Characters from published canons (including webcomics - hey, that's publishing too!), alternate universe versions of characters (both canon and original AUs - including importing history from other roleplays), and original characters from any universe (including ones from this universe, if you so desire!!). They're all characters, after all. You can only have six characters from a single canon, though. Why six? Because it's a full party.
If you make a compelling argument however, you could potentially have two alternates of the same character as well; the key thing to remember is that they cannot interact! So provided they have good reason for it, you could give it a try!
▶ So... anybody? Even Pokemon characters?
▷ There's a few more rules and regulations surrounding Pokemon characters, but they're allowed. If they are an important character (like N or Ghetsis or Red or something like that), they need to come from another universe. And they're also stuck with getting a new starter, at level five like everybody else - but they can have the same memories as the original starter (so Ash would be allowed to have his Pikachu, but it'd be weak again). OCs starting from this universe have to start with a level 5 Pokemon, as well. But yeah - they can come in if you want.
▶ My character has this spirit/robot/pet/person/complete weirdo they can't live without for reals - what happens here?
▷ Note you can still app dead people, they can come back here. This is for situations such as Yuuma and Astral, Subaru and War-Rock, or Homura and Kyuubey, and so on, so forth.
You need to app these characters seperately, over here. They do not get their own Xtransiever, and have different rules to them. The Entralink is weird. The character has to be from the same universe as the main character, as well.
You have two options when you bring them though, though. Think them over!
You can bring them though as a spirit guide, invisible to most. If there's something in their world which would make them visible, then ask me and we can figure out what the Unovian version may be. Or, tell people if they'd be able to see/hear them. If you wish, Pokemon can also see these spirits.
You can only do this if the character is canonly a guide like this - for example, take the character Raz from Psychonauts. If you really want him to still be able to contact Ford Cruller, you'd have to do it this way - it wouldn't make sense for the Pokemon thing to happen. (Don't you love it when people use obscure references?!)
You may also bring them though as a Pokemon. If they had a tangiable form in their world (As in, if they were human, animal, or something like that), this is the preferred option. They will be a normal-ish Pokemon, just with the mind of the person. If you wish, they can speak English as well - or they might need to re-learn it. They can keep some traits of their human/animal form, they can have some odd colouring, and you might be able to give them a special move with mod permission [as in, one they can't normally learn like giving a Wooper Water Pledge or something but no giving them signature moves, no Magikarp with Judgement or antthing], but remember! Don't make them a sparkle-mon!
If you choose this, keep in mind the change in body might change their personality a bit.
Apps in this catagory are gonna be looked at a bit harsher- You'll need to be able to justify why you're bringing them in as this form instead of just a main app. However, you won't need to pass Activity Check with them. You can if you want, though. You can also make them an account if you wish, but they can't make their own posts - they can't join the communities. (Unless, once more, you've got a silly enough or good enough reason. Such as borrowing the other's X-Transceiver, and so on.)
If you app them after the character they connect to (For example, if you want to play though some angst of them not having their partner/troll and then whoops there's their partner/troll), if they're a spirit, they'll just teleport to them. If they're a Pokemon, they'll be delivered though the delivery men thoughout the Unova Pokemon Centers. (Though they can be delivered on-Route, if you want.)
Apping a character in this way does not count towards the OU limit, if the character is appable on their own. So don't complain if somebody apps a character you've got as a spirit-Pokemon-thing. If it's just a canon pet/Pokemon, you won't need to use this form, unless you really want to. That's how it's been going, so yeah.
▷ All newcomers have been granted their very own Xtransceiver, with extra C-Gear and PokeDex add-ons. The Xtransceiver has been updated to be able to film video and audio, as well as text. How you do this? It's all in the manual. As well as how to lock posts.
Those add-ons? Yeah, the whole Xtransceiver is basically a glorified iPhone nowadays. And not only that, but tech savvy characters can get books on how to program new apps! Of course, if this happens, let us mods know! So, y'know, we can let everybody know and characters can buy the apps and your character can profit and stuff.
▶ I want to be a mighty breeder.
That's not a question, Guybrush.
But for your breeding and contest needs, head on in here!

▶ What powers can be kept when coming into Unova? How about non-humans?
▷ Powers are kept... at about 20-30 percent capacity. For example, if you could teleport around the world really easily, now you might just be able to use the power a bit like Fly, but it would be rather tiring. Psychics may be able to levitate a Pokeball instead of a person. And so on. If you need help with limiting powers, feel free to PM me.
As for non-humans... sorry, but they have to become humans. For now. This extends to vampires, ponies, and all in-between. But they can still keep some of their non-human traits - remember the 20-30 percent rule, guys! |D (You might get an exception if you can give me a good reason why; an acceptable example would be a Transformers character simply shrinking to human size, as opposed to becoming entirely organic.)
Otherwise, use your judgement with this! If their powers are relatively minor, then go ahead with 30%. If they're more god-like, and all powerful, stick to the 20%; note that this cap applies to the powers overall- some powers may be so basic that they can stay without change!
▶ How do battles happen?
▷ Battles... well, they happen though roleplaying. No dice rolls, no complex systems - just keep it semi-realistic, keeping levels and moves in mind. Nice and simple!
For those who really want to battle it out like the games themselves however, there will be a place for that... Keep your eyes peeled!
▶ And leveling? How about attacks - how do they work?
▷ As you know, Pokemon level up though battle. And that happens here, too.
There are limits to how much they can level up per week, though! As seen below:
1-20 ▶ 5 Levels Per Week
21-40 ▶ 4 Levels Per Week
41-60 ▶ 3 Levels Per Week
61-80 ▶ 2 Levels Per Week
81-100 ▶ 1 Level Per Week
(We won't hound you if you forget this a little.)
Keep in mind the levels of the Pokemon you're fighting, as well as how your trainer would fight... and just keep it logical! Even if you're fighting forever, you wouldn't be able to get a level 99 Pokemon to level up to level 100 in Route 1, now would you? A good limit to work by is 'seven levels above the highest encounter'- for example, if the highest encounter on Route 1 is level 3, your tepig shouldn't get any further than level 10; and even that's pushing it! (What were you doing on route 1 so long!?)
On the subject of attacks, though... they aren't limited to the level of the Pokemon. Say what, you may ask? Well, like in the anime, Pokemon can be taught all their moves though both TMs and levelling, but also though hard work and training. Depending on how powerful/hard the move would be to master, it'd take more time to learn. Let's have an example! Say your character has an Emboar. They've trained it with love and care, but they can't seem to find the TM for Overheat - or they don't want to get a new one to learn Body Slam as an egg move. Under normal circumstances, it'd take around a week for an Emboar to master Body Slam (it's just slamming into a wall or a Pokemon or something, after all) - but it'd take something like a month for it to master Overheat. Because they'd need to learn to not get injured while using all their strength. Just use your logic for this.
So yeah. Also, Pokemon can re-learn moves though that same training but it'd take a lot less time - but they can only keep four moves as their main moves. It'd take a lot for you to remember every single attacking move you could use, wouldn't it? It's the same for Pokemon.
▶ How do seasons (and time) work here?
▷ Time runs... weird. Days go by like on our planet, we think. Every season lasts two months, though - check the calender page!
▶ Languages?! How do our characters talk to each other?!
▷ You know that whole Entralink explosion? Yeah, not only did it drag you to Unova, it also gave you the magical power to speak a new language!
Of course, you can still speak your own language if you want, but you can also speak Pokemon-Ese. Yeah, that's what I'll call it for now. Of course, you can ask me if you don't want this to happen!
▶ So, trade evolutions... do you need to find somebody to trade with, or what?
▷ Yes, you still need to trade with somebody. HOWEVER, you can trade with NPCs, if you so desire.
▶ Rarr I wanna take on the gyms, so how do I take one on? My Ratatta is the bestest ever!
▷ I'm sure it is, mister. It's long answer taimu!
Firstly, before anything, make sure your Pokemon Info Post is fully updated. This is important, as it's how we check if you can beat the gym leaders. Also, make sure to check the city information post, because it has what levels the gym leaders are at, and what Pokemon they have.
Then, simply send your friendly neighborhood Mod a PM - give us a shout, telling us that you want your character to take on a gym. Then, the two of us look into what Pokemon you have, their levels and moves, and the gym leader. (It's a special case with both the Striaton City Gym and the Opulucid Gym -- with the Striaton City Gym, you can decide which of the brothers to take on [or you can take them all on if you want, or you can just have a triple multi battle if you want], and in the Opulucid Gym, you've got to have a partner to take on the gym, so you've got to send in who'll be taking the challenge together and stuff.) If you want, you can also include other notes - for example, saying your Pokemon has been trained to dodge a lot better then a normal one, or something like that.
We'll check it, and send you a reply saying if you've won or not. What next?
Well, you've got two options. You can ask one of the Mods to thread it out with you, in a full gym battle. In that case, I'll make a thread and stuff, but you'll already know the outcome so you don't have to be caught up with me. Or, you can write it all yourself, and just make a post like that!
▶ I heard something about shinies...
▷ Indeedy you did. You are now allowed to find/breed shinies - but, you can only find or breed one every three months - that is, at the maximum. Yeah. This rule can apply to the particularly rare encounters of an area as well- at the cost of a shiny, one could run into a pokemon that would otherwise take up to a month to find in the wild!
▶ So! How do I earn money around here?
▷ There's many ways!
Firstly, all newcomers/outsiders get 2000 PokeDollars deposited into their accounts every week, as an allowence from the Entralink old guy. He's loaded.
But if you want more? Well... you can sell eggs, find and sell items on the ground, do fetch quests and odd-jobs for NPCs, try and get a job somewhere, battle a lot, or do seedy stuff.
But you don't need to play this out. Heck, you don't even need to really keep track of this. We're not math wizards. Simply keep that 'personal judgement' point in mind- do you think it's realistic to suddenly have 100,00 PokeDollars? We don't. So if there's anything like that, we'll probably call you out on it (unless you managed to sell ten eggs in game or something).
▶ But how much is stuff--
▷ If it doesn't have a canon price in the games, just think about it. A TM is expensive because you can use them forever. A fossil is expensive, though you can find wild fossil Pokemon. (Fossil Pokemon revive at level 30.) So just make it up. Here's the shop page, by the way!

▶ NPCs. How do they work?
▷ As you'd expect, this world needs NPCs. And this world has lots of NPCs - from those random trainers scatted across the routes, to the workers at the Pokemon Centers and at the gyms. Have fun playing with them, guys! But if you wanna do something major like attack one or something - well, just run it by us. We'll most likely say yes, but we need to know beforehand! And if something does happen to an NPC, it will be noted right here!
In the Dark Stone event, Lenora did lead everybody off. She feels a bit guilty for the whole thing which happened to the outsiders.
In a player-run event, the NPC Emmet was killed and eaten. He came back to life, but is now more terrified then normal.
▶ Alright, then. How does death work? Especially in such a child-friendly setting......In a player-run event, the NPC Emmet was killed and eaten. He came back to life, but is now more terrified then normal.
▷ Ah, death. Death is srs buisness - so you've first gotta clear it by the mods. Even though most likely, well... this world does not want you to die. Almost everything will try and save you. Anyhow, when you've been approved to die, your character has to sit out for a few days - and then they'll wake up in the Entralink. Missing half their money. If they die more then once, though... stuff shall happen. Really bad stuff.
As for NPC death - after a week, the NPC will come back to life - and they may or may not go after you though the legal channels. You have been warned!
▶ Activity Check. How does it work?
▷ Our activity check is more then easy - you just need to tell us one thing your character did this month, when the monthly AC come in. You're allowed to miss one before we kick you- but don't fret too much about that! If something serious comes up, and you couldn't make AC, simply send a PM to explain what's going on. We don't want to end up kicking you only to find that you were hospitalized after all- that's horrible!
▶ And how about hiatuses? Drops?
▷ Hiatuses - everybody needs them. Anyhow, in-character, hiatused characters can either just continue on their life, or they can have vanished into the Entree Forest, behind the Entralink. That forest is expansive and all - it's easy to get lost in.
As for drops - the Entralink is rather glitchy right now - it may have just sent them home with no warning, resulting in their stuff just staying in the spot where the person vanished. Or the stuff may have disappeared too. All up to you!
As for hiatus length - you can go on them for as long as you need, as long as you explain them.
▶ Sooo... Canon Updates. How do they happen?
▷ Canon Updates are possible after the Dark Stone was found! Joy!
But how do they happen? Well, that's easy. They dream of it. However, these dreams are like normal dreams - as in, you wake up every day while they happen - for up to a week. At the end of the update period, the character may also change appearance if it was a large update. However, and here's a big however. They can choose to not believe their dreams, if you so desire. Because weird trippy shit is awesome.
▶ ...Who are you mods anyway?
▷ Well, there's two at the moment- one main, one assistant. The main mod would be Usagi- And our ever helpful assistant mod is Fearless!
